While moon jars are typically spun on a potter's wheel—a technique requiring years of practice—this specially curated class utilizes professional plaster molds to make this masterpiece accessible in just one day. You will learn the traditional Korean method of crafting a white porcelain moon jar: shaping two separate bowls and fusing them together to form one perfect, organic sphere.
- Age Requirement: Suitable for adults (Ages 18 and up).
- Duration: 2 Hours total
- Capacity: Strictly limited to a maximum of 2 participants per session due to mold availability and to ensure intimate, high-quality instruction.
- Final Product Size: Approx. 20cm (approx. 8 inches). (Note: The final jar will be slightly smaller due to natural clay shrinkage after firing).
- Forming the Two Bowls: Using specialized plaster molds, you will shape the top and bottom halves of your jar, ensuring smooth, elegant contours.
- The Traditional Fusion: Learn the authentic Korean technique of scoring and slipping to perfectly connect the two bowls into a single, seamless moon jar shape.
- Trimming & Smoothing: Refine the surface, lip, and foot of your jar to achieve the iconic, naturally asymmetrical silhouette of Korean white porcelain.
- Personalized Finishing: Once the structure is complete, you can carve your signature, engrave a special date, or apply unique ceramic stamps to personalize your piece.
- Glazing & Firing: Your moon jar will be carefully dried, glazed in a classic white porcelain finish, and fired twice in our kiln. It will be ready for pickup in approximately 3 to 4 weeks.
- Disclaimer: Due to the scale and unpredictable nature of large ceramic vessels, minor cracks, warping, or glaze variations can occur during the kiln firing process. This is an inherent part of the ceramic art form and adds unique character to each handmade piece.
- Rescheduling: You can change your date once up to 24 hours before class.
- Cancellations: No refunds for same-day cancellations or no-shows.
- Clothing & Nails: Wear comfortable clothes that can get a little dirty. Keeping fingernails neat and short is highly recommended for smooth clay handling.

No refunds. You may cancel for full credit up until 10 days before the start of class.
One complimentary makeup class per session is included. Makeup classes must be scheduled within the session or during designated makeup times. Please email soyouceramics@gmail.com before your missed class to schedule a makeup.
